Fundraising Dinner Supporting the Fight Against Homelessness

Based on the most recent estimates by outreach workers, there are 85 people sleeping rough in the Richmond borough. Over 850 households were either threatened by or experiencing homelessness in 2024/25, a number which has more than doubled since 2020. An additional 569 households are in temporary accommodation secured through the local housing authority, which is above average for England.

Homelessness is more than rough sleeping. It is also living in temporary or emergency accommodation, including shelters, hotels, staying with family or friends, and sofa surfing. It includes those leaving hospital or prison with no accommodation to return to; asylum seekers and refugees waiting to be accommodated; and those unable to remain in or access their current accommodation due to domestic violence, inappropriate conditions, eviction or other legal reasons. To combat homelessness we must not only support those who are currently homeless, but also those who are on the edge of homelessness.

Ritu Mahandru, one of the OneRichmond Development Board founding members, was inspired to organise this fundraising dinner in memory of her late partner Adrian Dilworth. Adrian was a caring and kind member of the Richmond community with a passion for supporting the homeless, and this fundraiser will be supporting various charities doing invaluable work with and for people experiencing homelessness in Richmond borough. 50% of funds raised will go directly to the Vineyard Community Centre, and the rest of the money raised will be added to a pot of OneRichmond funding that will be accessible to different charities addressing homelessness within the borough.
