About Winchester City FC.
Winchester City Football Club, originally formed as Winchester Swallows FC in 1884, has a long and storied history in English football. After several name changes, the club officially became Winchester City F.C. on July 21, 1908.
The club joined the Hampshire League in 1898-99 and later made an attempt at the Southern League in 1971-72. After a period of reorganization in the late 1990s, Winchester City experienced significant success in the early 2000s. They won the Hampshire League Division One championship in 2000-01 and achieved a remarkable treble in 2002-03, securing the Hampshire League title, the Trophyman Cup, and the Southampton Senior Cup.
The 2003-04 season was a landmark year for Winchester City. They won the Wessex League title, the Wessex League Cup, and famously clinched the FA Vase, beating AFC Sudbury in the final. Despite this success, promotion to the Southern League was initially denied due to ground criteria.
Winchester City eventually gained promotion to the Southern League Division One South & West after another title win in 2005-06. While they faced a brief relegation back to the Wessex League in 2009-10, they swiftly returned to the Southern League in 2012. After another relegation, they once again earned promotion to the Southern League Division One South & West in 2015.
The club also notably reached the third qualifying round of the FA Cup in 2014 for the first time in 59 years.
