About Tavistock AFC.
Tavistock AFC, founded on September 8, 1888, boasts a rich history in English football. The club quickly found success, becoming the first winners of the Devon Senior Cup in 1889-1890 and claiming their first Devon League title in 1900-01.
After a brief hiatus in the 1930s due to debt, the club re-established itself, notably amalgamating with other local teams in 1939, which led to their distinctive red and black striped kits.
A significant milestone occurred in 1947 when Club President Herbert Thomas Langsford secured their current home ground, Langsford Park. This enabled Tavistock AFC to enter the prestigious FA Cup for the first time in the 1948-49 season.
Tavistock AFC has been a consistent presence in regional leagues, joining the South Western League in 1952 and becoming a founding member of the South West Peninsula League Premier Division in 2007. More recently, the club has experienced renewed success, winning the South West Peninsula League Premier Division in 2016-17 and again in 2018-19. Their 2018-19 triumph secured their historic promotion to the Western League for the first time.
The club has also made its mark in national competitions, reaching the FA Vase Fourth Round (last 32) in 2005-06.
